Here we come Ghana

One of the hardest goodbyes ever, we love our grandchildren and are thankful for all our support, and prayers.

You are Welcome to Ghana! (As the Ghanaians say. )

We arrived safely Tuesday afternoon tired, and ready to take a shower and a nap.  But we had a few things to go and do....the Fitzgeralds' the area secretary and his wife, picked us up from the airport.  Small world, they are also from Alpine, though  we had never met.  We felt like we were Ben Hur in a chariot race as they were driving, it's CRAZY . The Fitzgeralds' took us to the bank, to three different stores to buy groceries, ( still trying to remember which was best to buy the bread, meat, or vegetables) then we had our first meal in Ghana!  And no it was not, goat, or monkey!  I had been told this was a main course but... Seven months ago a new mall opened here, The Marina Mall.  Down stairs is a grocery store, among a lot of clothing stores etc.   We ate at KFC!  I don't remember the last time we ate there.  We were VERY hungry and it was pretty good.

We finished the shopping and then came to our home for the next 18 months.

This is a view from our apartment window on a pretty clear day.

Our apartment complex, we are on the third floor.

A few fun local pics...life in Ghana

The local " lawn- mowers", we are told the goats know their way home each night.

A "trotro", taxi with a lot a luggage, this is from the back...

This is the side view, on top  are two goats getting a ride. :)

This is the Kaneshie Chapel, where we come to work in the
Self Reliance Center each day. We are the coordinators at this building.

Friday was our last day of training for us here at the center. The Cannons', who are from Las Vegas, were our trainers and in this picture are our new best friends here in Ghana. Our volunteers who work here with us, until they are able to find a job. Wonderful group of new friends. We are so thankful for these young people and feel very blessed to be here with them.

Cute children that came up to say hello to us, it was so warm outside my camera fogged up.

This couple were married in the Temple last Saturday . They were a beautiful family. They celebrated all day here with the reception upstairs in the cultural hall of the chapel.  I thought the little flower girl and ring bearer were pretty cute.

Life is good here in Accra, this is the sight we see every morning about 30 steps
Out of our front steps and are thankful to see this is our last sight at night.  It brings a feeling of
Comfort each day, after the sadness we see on the real streets of Ghana. The people of Ghana
Are very spiritual Godfearing people and some are trying to make change here one at a time, we
Hope we can help in some small way.
